I also had no idea what it actually is supposed to do. I benchmarked Hitman Absolution to death trying out every little adjustment on my gpu to see what it does. Power slider doesn't touch framerates or ppd, but can improve stability for higher overclocks.
The power limit allows more current to be drawn by the VRM's on the card. I noticed that at 0% with 1300mV (in Trixx, Afterburner hasn't played nice with me), at full load the core voltage would drop down to 1150mV, barely above stock for the card. Every percent I pushed it up, the less voltage drop I got on the core, but also more heat from VRM1. I'm running at 8% now, which puts the core voltage at 1210mV, stable at 1360mhz now. The VRM is sitting at 58C instead of the normal 38C (at 0%). So just be careful of sliding it all the way to 20%, you might end up thermal throttling the card real quick
Was struck by Kevdogs law last night. For some weird reason my GPU stopped folding at 18%... Lost about 6 hours of folding
got everything back in running order before I left for work though.Edited by altsanity - 8/19/13 at 10:15pm
