ATI 6950 & 6970 Crossfire Heating problem

post #1 of 4

HI, I'm hoping someone here can help me with this.

Running a Core i5 3570k Cpu, mildly overclocked to 4.4Ghz - stable on air cooling and temps fine (using noctua cooler)
Asus Sabretooth TUF motherboard
12GB Kingston Hyperx blue ram
Silverstone Strider 750w 80plus modular Power supply
ATI 6950 & 6970 in crossfire.

Everything works well. Except occasionally (like tonight) the second cards temps go high, up to about 90 degrees and the fan ramps up a lot. Even after stopping whatever game I'm playing the temp on the second card stays high, while the first card (which isn't as hot) comes back down.

Have both cards running at stock speeds.

Here's a screen grab of afterburner;

As you can see above the 1st cards temps are coming down nicely but the second card is staying high at 64 degrees despite not being used at all.

Anyone come across this before?

Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for the reply, glad I checked back here cos I thought I'd get an email when someone replied, which I didn't.

Re the cards; have the 6950 on top as everything I've read on crossfire with these two cards says to have the lesser card in spot 1.

Ok, that is good, but which card is on top in Afterburner? Like is gpu2 the 6970 or 6950?
