Looking for Gaming Headphones need advice

Thread Starter
I have a pair of Sennheiser HD415's that are finally worn out and have decided to get a better quality set of cans.

No mic needed (or wanted).

Using Creative Titanium HD (which has a headphone amp).

$200 or less price tag (obviously a great deal would be appreciated).

Don't need to be portable

Comfort is important.

Noise cancelling not relevant.

I play primarily FPS games and as such base is important.

Not USB.

Thanks

Hi,

I'm currently in the same predicament, I've been looking around for a good set of headset for gaming and such when my computer is fully up and running again.

As you said, you play FPS mainly, so positioning would be important. I believe you need to first figure out which type of headset you want first, Stereo or Multi speaker headset. Once you have figured it out, you can go from there.

Whilst many people say that stereo headset paired with Dolby Headphones gives good positioning (via virtual surround) and sound quality, However, when i tested virtual surround (Turtle Beach X42, probably not dolby headphones) it was kinda of a hit and miss.

I have also tested the Razer Tiamat 7.1 which is a multi speaker headset, that does give good positioning (the "rear" speakers are completely useless though) the sound quality was indeed crap. My friend, who was the owner of the headset, said that after tweaking the drivers, the sound quality has gotten alot better.

The basic point i want to get across in this post is go out there and test both virtual surround headsets first as well as multi speaker headsets, see which you would prefer. From there, i'm sure others will be able to assist you further in finding the right headset for you.

I don't know if that helped at all, but just my 2 cents. I'm personally leaning more towards multi speakers simply because it gives better positioning. Also, this is all just my personally preference and i hope i did not offended any audiophiles out there by saying i live multi speaker headsets better.
