Found a good deal, should I buy it?

Hey all,

I found two 7790's for just $199, here in Australia. Should I spend $200 on this bundle deal or would a ~$200 - ~$250 single card beat these two cards out?

Link: http://www.mwave.com.au/product/sku-ab50737-2x_his_amd_radeon_hd_7790_1gb_video_card_ready_for_crossfirex_mode

Thanks!

That's not really a great deal. For $200 you can get a used 7950 which would be a much better solution overall.

The used market over here in Australia is a no no, it's prices are pretty much the same as buying new.

Alright, in that case go for it then. Be sure you check to make sure the games you want to play have Xfire support, though. That's one issue about Xfire, not all games have an Xfire profile. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7790_CrossFire/24.html

OP i would suggest going for a single HD 7870 2GB. HD 7790 cards in the deal have 1GB VRAM which is just too less.

Farcry 3 1920 x 1080 Ultra 2x MSAA HDAO

HD 7790(1230 Mhz) - 37.5 fps

In Farcry 3 once you apply MSAA the gap widens more than 50%. HD 7870(1200 mhz) with 4x MSAA is 50% faster than HD 7790(1230 mhz) with 2x MSAA. so with same MSAA the gap would be even more, around 70 - 75%. the 128 bit bus of the HD 7790 is a performance killer when MSAA or SSAA is used.

CF scaling in best cases is 1.8x but in average is 1.6x. the most important factor is the smoothness and frametime consistency of a single GPU. lower power, heat and noise. frankly going CF at the low end is a bad idea. go with a single HD 7870.

GTX 660 is slower than HD 7870 at stock and the perf gap widens with overclocking. HD 7870 scales much better and is a clearly faster card. anyway good luck . thumb.gif

Well, I feel Nvidia has always been better for Photoshop & Video editing, I'll also use it for that. Also theres a price gap in the 660 & 7870.

Thanks anyway! smile.gif
