Which HD 7990 Should I Get?

7990's have gone crazy low in prices.

Which one do you think I should buy? I have found the powercolor one for 600 dollars and that price is very attractive. But whatever I can find about the Powercolor 7990 is of the Devil 13 version (out of stock) and I can't find anything about the ax 7990 so its a bit of a blank page. The other option is the Sapphire card.

Which one is the better option?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Sapphire one on air, powercolor if you plan on water cooling. The sapphire one will use less power then the powercolor and run much quieter as well. If you plan on water cooling check to see if there are any blocks available for the PC one as it will Overclock better then the Sapphire one.

Also, frame pacing only supports single screen setups and DX10 and DX11 games. If that issue bothers you i suggest waiting until they release their phase 2 drivers in afew weeks. There are also rumors that the 9970 will be getting released soon that make waiting a better option as that card could significantly drop the price of the 780 and titan.

I plan on gaming on a 2560x1440 monitor. Even if the price of the 780 or Titan drops benchmarks have proven the 7990 performs much better. I'm planing on buying in the following 2 months or so, hoping they'll still be in stock. If not I'll buy sooner, and download the newer driver later on. Only thing tempting now is the 9970, which is still not definitive at all with the available info. But if it is 20% faster than the Titan and 780 it means it'll be the about the same performance as the 7990. And I would rather have a single gpu with the performance of the 7990. But it sounds like it'll be expensive.

HD 9970 is due for an early - mid Oct launch. the press event is on sep 25th. you can expect launch 2- 3 weeks after that.

the expected performance is Titan like. could be better. BF4 is mostly going to be bundled with HD 9970. price should be around USD 600. so if you can wait 2 months thats the best option.

I think AMD is planning to release the 9970 together with BF4, since its been mentioned that BF4 will be AMD optimized. It should be as such, that they release the 9970 the same time BF4 is out.

At 1440p a 7990 will be very sufficient, I was just noting that there is a new card coming soon. Of course the flip side of that is there will always be something new around the corner tongue.gif so just go with whats out right now and works for you and the Sapphire card gets my vote thumb.gif

Thanks to all, even with the Titan like performance, the 7990 beats the Titan by 20 fps on some games I will play. It's also just around the price of 9970. So I'll guess I'll go with that (the sapphire one).

Be warned, there have been a bunch of reports of coil whine. Also, the powercolor is just 2 7970s on one board, and uses tahiti and not malta chips.
