BTW what is your PSU? do you have another PSU to test the card with? sometimes GPUs overheat when the power delivery from the PSU is not enough.
Thanks, HeadlessKnight. I will try this Arctic 5 next time but I did check the AK-455 in terms of performance and it seemed to do pretty well.
The PSU I'm using is one of those Corsair Professional Series Gold AX750. It's not very old either... maybe a year?
Do you think the 7950 is really having trouble drawing power from the PSU? I admit the thought had crossed my mind, but I've been told several times that the PSU has more than enough juice to power everything I have as I raised the question before buying the GPU. Sadly, I do not have another PSU to test out your theory, but I will keep this in mind if all else fails to work.
Is there anyway I can test to see how much power my rig is consuming against what my PSU delivers to see if it's peaking?
I have a pretty minimalist set-up to be honest.
- Corsair Carbide 500R (powering 2 x 120 mm fan at the front of the case and 1x 200 mm fan in side panel)
- P8Z68-V PRO GEN3
- i5 2500k 3.30GHz
- ^ Antec Kühler H2o 620 for CPU
- 8Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 (2x4GB)
- Corsair Force 3 SSD
- 2 addition HDD for storage
Incidentally, I have finally heard back from XFX after I requested permission to reapply thermal paste myself so that I didn't void my warranty and the service staff said -
"We normally don't recommend our customers to change any components on our products.
However, we understand that we can't stop you if you really want to do.
We can only suggest that please reinstall the original one back when you want to RMA.
If we find that the card is the same as the original one, we will let you pass."
All I wanted to do was reapply thermal paste... does he want me to magically revert to the old thermal paste? Haha! But seriously, will they accept my card do you think now that I've reapplied the paste 3 times? The card still looks brand spanking new!
