Need an alternative OS to Google, Apple & Microsoft ones...

Hey guys. I've got a Sony Xperia X8. I don't want to run Google's Android on it. Are there any good alternative operating systems I can run on it which are free, maybe a Linux based one? Keeping in mind I still need the ability to make calls and texts with my sim card. Thanks smile.gif

Hey guys. Thanks for the input! Well I don't have the X8, or even a phone anymore! But I will get another phone at some point. I don't want to run android because I don't like google. I don't want apple or ms os's on a phone either. I will buy another phone once I've found a good alternative os, which will dictate the phone I get. That xda site is cool yeh. But I just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks smile.gif

If thats the case, you'd better hurry up and get an ubuntu edge, that's the only phone with an alternative os atm..

It doesn't look like they'll make their goal tho.

Don't they have those cheap Firefox OS phones? I don't know what carriers have them or how you unlock them etc. but it's a different OS. I think you are really hobbling yourself by ruling out so many great options but I guess it matters less if all you want to do is make calls or text only.

If you dislike google you could also go with an open source android rom like CM, Paranoid Android etc and just not flash Google Apps. Then it would have nothing to do with google really.

Ah cool. I didn't know anything about that! I'm not sure it's available in my country yet. But I'll keep an eye out for it. I would like to have more than just calls and texts. It's the google integration I don't like with Android. I don't want them data mining my life. As long as I have a web browser on the phone, it should be just fine without the apps. I guess I can get some apps outside of the google store as well. Though it would be nice to have the free satnav still lol. But what about the wireless connectivity in the android options, that seems like it's integrated with google as it says they collect location data when you enable it? Thanks.
