Computer + HUGE SUBS!

Thread Starter
I want to know...is it possible, and how would I go about it?

I wanna know if I can hook up car audio subs to my computer. I've seen this done somewhere, but I didn't really see how he did it.

I would theoretically need a box, the subs, some way to connect them, and a power supply...

But how to do it...I have no idea. Maybe one of you guys would know?

Just getting ideas..might not even do it, but help would be appreciated.

Ive got some old sound equipment, but the input line in my amp is an RCA line. Just get a 3.5mm to RCA converter and plug it into the back of your PC.

What ever the input type connector to your amp is find a converter for it to 3.5mm and thats all you would need.

Ya, but I'd need some way to power it, and all that...

I haven't got a clue how to do that...

Thats the easy part. 3.5mm jack to Rca is cheap and easy to find. A power supply for an amp on the other hand..not soo easy. You'll need something quiet strong and preferably around 13 -14 volts ( around what cars run ) and with a high amperage ( up in the 20's) * CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG*. Anything weak will just heat up and end up failing and possibly damaging your equiptment . Try looking at radio shack, i've looked before and i know they have some ( not really cheap ). Other then that its all the same. Same connections .

EDIT:: Heres two P.S you could try.

15 Amp - 13.8v

25 Amp - 12v

Oh... Look for an amplifier for a sub. My old equipment has this huge external one, but I'm sure you could find smaller ones.

The other option would to just use conventional equipment, not car stuff

My Dad runs his computer through his old Mirantz receiver from the 70's (sp?) at 210watts per channel RMS in his condo it'll shake your eyeballs out of their sockets and that's just running a pair of three way speakers with 8" subs built in.

Assuming that's 700watts peak, not RMS, you can run a 350/400watt RMS single channel amp.

The reason I brought up car audio, is cause it's cheap as hell for what you get compared to home audio. So I can have a huge sub, and pay a lot less than I would for computer or home audio subs
