[FUD] AMD Hawaii graphics card to cost less than $600

Will put a lot of pressure on Nvidia

According to our sources, which we simply cannot name due to obvious reasons, AMD plans to launch the upcoming Hawaii graphics card with a price that will be below US $600.

Unfortunately, the precise price is still not carved in stone but the general idea is to launch it at below US $600 so current best guess is that AMD might go for either US $599, $549 or even something in between. This price will put the new Hawaii based graphics card well below the Nvidia GTX 780 which is currently selling for around US $649 and higher.

This is also in line with AMD's recent move to cut the price of the HD 7990 Malta graphics cards down to US $699. While the upcoming Hawaii GPU based graphics card will be faster than the HD 7970 we doubt that it will get close to the HD 7990, at least not in games where HD 7990 actually works well in Crossfire.

Of course, bear in mind that AMD can change the price on the last day but we guess that we'll know for sure on 25th of September when AMD plans to officially unveil the new Hawaii GPU to the press in Hawaii.

We will, of course, keep our ear close to the ground as more rumors will surelly appear as we draw closer to the official date of the unveil.

Nowadays AMD has no problems with releasing pricey cards, 7970 was more expensive than GTX 580 and 7990 launch surprised a lot of people with sky high price. I guess 9970 is slightly slower than GTX 780 hence the lower price.

Imo this doesn't look good for it's performance (hoping it was more powerful than the gtx 780).

The price would put it somewhere in-between a 79ghz and a 780.

When was the last time, if ever, nvidia or amd released a flagship card that had MORE performance than the competitor while costing less?

GTX680 at launch was $499 while the 7970 was $549.

The 680 at the time was ahead in a few games by a decent margin in certain games ( Most notably BF3 ), so AMD reduced the price to $479 I think it was.

Meh it really didn't have more performance. It was like a tie. It didn't win in EVERY game so in my book that isn't a win. Plus at higher resolutions with AA the gtx 680 lost most of the time.

The titan on the other hand did in fact win in every single game over any other single gpu.

But you asked when was the last time nvidia/amd released something with more performance and priced lower. The GTX 680 had more performance at the time in games that mattered ( BF3 ). It's a tie now. Point is, I answered your question. The 680 launched at a lower price than the competitor, forcing AMD to lower prices.

If the 9970 launches at lower than $600, you can be sure Nvidia will be forced to lower the 780's price to compete. If the 9970 performs similar or slightly better than the 780, that doesn't mean AMD has to price at the same price point or higher. The only reason Nvidia priced the 780 so high is because they had no competition. AMD did the same thing when the 7970 launched.

Really though, the 9970 will likely perform on par with the 780. They're both still 28nm after all. If the 9970 is priced higher than the 780 then the consumer loses.

Paying over $600 for a single gpu is madness. $499 should be the max of any single gpu. Nvidia and AMD got that right this gen with the 680/7970.

i was finally gonna upgrade my 560ti to a 760, but ill be patient and wait for AMD to launch there lineup and see where final prices for both sides sit. I really did not like the launch price of the 660's (300+) or the launch of the whole 6xx series really.
