Wait a minute... I just realized that the 4A Engine doesn't support OpenGL, only DX 9,10 and 11. I'm wondering if they added in OpenGL support or what.

IDK. Your the one with the claim, I was asking for clarification because it went against what I have heard about linux gaming.

Just to clear the dust here, Nvidia's drivers are much better then AMD's for Linux. If no one else will tell him, I will damn it.

for the record its usual that nvidia's closed has better driver for linux although this is changing faster now with the opensource AMD getting real boost's recently, unfortunately the official catalyst driver isnt really too good on the desktop, it shines at 3D but it woeful at 2D. Nvidia's opensource driver is practically non existent although with the advent of the shield rumour has it that they too will be moving to an opensource model for drivers..

I will add that in my own personal experience Nvidia is quite excellent with Linux. I have not run into any real issues using it in games, aside from some slight annoyance with E17's compositing. I've never used an AMD GPU in Linux, but I know someone who's less than impressed with his APU in Linux.

To end the linux bit, if you do gaming the Nvidia drivers have better performance hands down. Run benchmarks, I've noticed over 300pts difference in stuff like Valley with AA OFF!

Now, both cards are generally much much more than any current Linux game eats up. This might change things, it'll be an interesting thing if it pushes AMD to get some of this Linux and 3D crap moving better.

As for FOSS drivers, AMD is better due to a closer relationship with the devs. Nvidia doesn't like the idea too much really, though they have good 2D but it's got issues so to speak. Either way, their proprietary (nvidia) drivers work. I do mean work. They update them with xorg, OGL updates, the works. They make sure you get working Linux drivers, at least I've never had a problem and I ran everything up to Fermi. I'm guessing it hasn't changed as much.

AMD for proprietary, let's just say it's obvious who has the bigger dev department for that. Good cards, just....
