Simple question concerning AHCI and storage drives

I recently ordered and received a 256gb samsung pro series SSD to replace a sluggish WD caviar blue that I've been using for years as my boot drive. I've been looking around for an answer to this question but haven't found anything that reflects the setup I'm going to be using.

After enabling AHCI sata mode within bios and performing a fresh install of windows on the SSD I'm going to be reconnecting two storage drives (1tb caviar black and a 750gb seagate) that I'm currently using in IDE mode. Will I have to do anything special for windows to recognize these drives and function correctly or is it simply a matter of reconnecting, booting and assigning a drive letter? Will I encounter problems using drives that were formatted in IDE mode with the controller running in AHCI?

No problems at all because the Registry is what matters. That is, nothing is done to the drives themselves. So, a fresh installation in AHCI mode will automatically set the Registry as it needs to be set, and then everything will be good. Also, if those two drives already have data on them, then you shouldn't need to go and manually assign a drive letter either. It should just be a very easy and simple and normal installation of Windows.

Ahh, I see. Thanks for clearing that up for me, much appreciated! I'm pretty excited since it's my first SSD after years of being obstinate due to reliability concerns and I just wanted to be sure so I don't taint the experience.
