How To? Get WiFi Modem to connect to WiFi Router Via Wireless?

Thread Starter
Hey Guys,

I have a DSL WiFi modem I would like to link to a WiFi router via the wireless, rather than the conventional hard wire LAN.

Is this possible?

If it can be done, I need instruction, or a link to a "how to" thread.

Thanks

I think he wants to use the router as a WiFi access point. OP, check the manual of your router if it has the possibility to be put in bridge mode.
It is possible for SOME routers, but not all. It depends on the firmware of the routers in question, and it'll be hard to get a guide to cover everything, since each wireless router has different firmware.

You should look up Wireless distribution system, it should get you on the right path. Also in you router's instruction book, look for WDS, Wireless bridging, or wireless client. It should get you in the right ball park.

If you can get DD-wrt on both routers (new firmware), It may be possible to. Its all dependent on what the routers are/what hardware is inside/what firmware and options they have

As previously mentioned, if you have a 'bridge mode' option this should be viable.

If your device supports DD-WRT it is supported under that software (as also previously mentioned).

Thanks for your input.

I am checking out the router now, to see if it is client capable.

Will get back later.

Couldn't you just connect your machines to the modem? I'm really want to know specifically what use you need for the router, I'm honestly just curious.... And also really have no knowledge on how to help you.
