Just because they removed the check doesn't mean they had to remove the sharable status of things.
They could have simply required it to check when/while you were playing said shared game.
Instead they try to play it off like one cannot be without the other.
Depends on how the system was set up. Always online wasn't a function of shared games, shared games was a function of always online (as was reselling and gifting digital copies). Shared games are probably not gone for good, but the system needs to be redesigned to not rely on the always online. If you build a car with the assumption you'll have 4 wheels, and then you're told you don't have 4 wheels, you only get 3, you're going to have to redesign the car to get it working with only 3 wheels. That takes time, and that 4 wheeled design you had is now irrelevant.

Good job paying attention. There are advantages to having a digital copy(access from anywhere, instant switching, ect) and there are also games that are only available digital, if you want those, you have exactly one option to get them. That's what he was talking about.
