reference board not fitting reference waterblock

so, i finally got all the parts together for my water cooling system.... And as i am installing the EKWB for refence 6970 graphics cards onto my HIS 6970 reference board it turns out the cooler does not match the board... who would have thought about that... My question now is, is it safe for me to re-apply thermal compound onto the graphics card and screw the stock cooler back onto the board?

Yes it is fine to reapply thermal paste onto GPU and reapply the stock cooler. Just make sure you clean off the old thermal paste. rolleyes.gif

What is the exact title of your 6970 GPU?
Which style 6970 EKWB block did you buy?

ok thats good to know, and after some searching on google it seems like it was HIS that changed the design of the board without adding a reversion #, XFX did the same thing. the water block is the EK-FC6970 Acetal + EN (Nickel).

Dang, that's harsh. Have you tried emailing EK and explaining the situation? I'm sure they won't mind refunding you the money.

Next time ya buy an EK block though, make sure to take a look at the compatibility list on their website. thumb.gif

im sure ek will refund me, but the thing is its HIS's fault for not changing the part # on their board the product i bought was not the product in the box. HIS did a silent update to their product and did not inform the vendor (in this case memory express)

Hmm, if none of EK's waterblocks will work with the GPU (which it seems that way), I would do all I can to get the GPU replaced since it was false advertised. thumb.gif

Not sure if that's a little extreme though. I guess it depends on how old your GPU is?
