AMD Dual-Core Death... - Page 14

I think it's odd he can say Intel's Pentium D "knocks it out of the park" and not provide and definitive proof or even the specs on the machines.

Yes.

Guys, my games are starting to lag.
I NEVER have experienced any problems in games since I got my Opty. Only issues are benchmarks not running after a few successive runs and Windows processes not shutting off; but that's a Windblows problem.
This whole thread was pointless from the start. Nothing but an attempt to start something. The few that did try to critically debate the issues presented were ridiculed and shut down, something that I have seen rather often in this board nowdays.
Get a Conroe system if you're starting from scratch and have the money. Go AMD if upgrading from an AMD system or are strapped for monies, and use whatever is left for a nice video card or keep it in the bank. Conroe is not the best price/performance buy in every situation; it is for us performance enthusiasts, but we are not everyone. Yes, Conroe chips "destroy" AMD chips, but to be honest, a good video card will make a much bigger difference in games, and that is where most of your money should go if you're a gamer.

He still hasn't said what games that the PD beats the x2 in... One thing the D has going for it is the crazy overclock ability... I OC'd my friends 820 from 2.8 ghz to 3.5 ghz... His mobo won't let me change the volts so it gets unstable over 3.5 :-/ Conroe is another story... If I had the cash I would have gotten one... Also to get a good Intel mobo you gotta spend more than for a good AMD mobo.

Many have said how rare few games that have DC patches SUCK, So, it would seem the game makers SUCK not the hardware!

I read about the first 3 pages then I desided I was waisting my life.

But I would like someone to explain this lag to me from your cpu ?

Only time I EVER get lag on my sig rig is when I get the crap shot out of me by a EU walker in BF2142. Only because of the snow and explosion effect covering my entire 20" screen at 1600x1200res.

I have a single weak 3200+ OCed and I notice no lag other than that particular example.

Yes but they are cheaper.
The opteron 165 is about the same price : performance ratio as a 3 HUNDRED DOLLAR INTEL CORE 2 DUO CHIP.

And anyone that must have a $300 chip (or maybe even more?) in my book, is nuts (or just loves being on the bleeding edge of technology)

But I must concur - AMD has a lot of catching up to do in the price AND performance areas of microprocessors.

Just wait until commonly used applications and games can use multi-core processors.

Also, I can think of a dozen AMD single core chips that out perform a pentium D...

Allow me to make a few points. First of all, I agree that probably around half of the posts in this thread are just caffeine-high fanboys from both factions slinging mud at each other. People probably look at me and say I have to be biased if I'm using an AMD chip. I personally don't give a damn about who made my chip. I've used Intel and AMD chips my entire life - the first two computers we had while I was growing up were one of each. The computer my sister and I shared was 486 DX at 33 MHz, while my mom and dad's system was a 50 MHz AMD X5. I used the DX as my personal computer for a few years, because I just used it to fool around with old DOS games. Then my mom got a PII 350, and I got the X5. When I needed a faster computer, my dad got a PII 400 for my sister and I. That died in about two months, and so we got a 500 MHz K6. The K6 was about the same performance as my mom's PII that was two years older about, but the K6 system was a lot less for my dad to buy and had pretty much comparable stuff. Anyway, I got my own PII 300 a few years later, which I sold off to buy this. I've used almost every chip, and I say we need to just shut up and get on with life.

The E6300 is only $189 on newegg and it performs and OCs really well, better than the Opty.

However, it seems like AMD is on the right track with Fusion because it is well known that the n-core race is pointless. Hopefully their modular approach will allow for seamless and quick upgrades. Intel seems to be behind on this. They seem to be riding the wave with the performance of Core.
