Mind if I ask what the application purpose is? Is this for a periodic backup, or some other purpose? What is the link speed between the two systems, is it on a LAN, or across the Internet?

If it's just something you do periodically, and not as a live sync, you can use ROBOCOPY. It's included in Windows 7/8 and Windows 2008R2/2012. Live-sync is another beast entirely.
