FX-6300 + GA 78lmt-usb3 rev. 5.0 overclocking so far

So far at 6 core stable 4.0ghz 1.344 vcore at load. Any lower causes error. Prime 95 stable for hours now. Max temp is 40c

CPU/NB 2200
HT 2200
RAM at spec 1600 8-8-8-24

Stock voltage everywhere except CPU.

Here's the kicker. If I want 4.3, I need over 1.46 vcore. That is even questionable as it's yet to be fully tested. Temps at 4.3 are 50c. Seems like a massive jump for such small return.

I bring this up because 4.3 isn't much. Now, if I were at 4.5 and wanted 4.8, a large vcore bump would look normal.

Could I be missing something? Perhaps some voltage setting I missed? Ultimately, I'd love to hit 4.5! I guess can't complain with 4.0 at my current temps.

If i'm expecting the world from this board and if what i'm looking at is what it is....so be it. By all means, set me straight. For $150 out the door for both CPU and board, I can't complain smile.gif

Thanks for you time,
Bob

I assume you are overclocking using the multiplier?

If so you may have simply hit a wall, your chip's internal multiplier can only be pushed so far.

I always recommend a mixture of FSB overclocking and multiplier overclocking to achieve a higher clock rate.

Also note your board has a 4+1 phase and a max TDP of 125w, so your chip could be drawing a limit here.

Personal, I would try overclocking the bus a little to see if you can push a little more out of the board smile.gif

I'm running the same setup as you OP. What have you set LLC to? For 4Ghz all I needed was 1.29v in the bios. Max vcore within Windows was 1.28v. Here's a screenshot of all my temps and Prime95 for over 9+ hours. Temp here are little high but are much lower while gaming. Even though this mobo isn't the best it does hold it's own. What are your vrm temps at load at? It's the TMPIN2 temp in HW Monitor.

I've even got 4.4Ghz stable at 1.39v within bios and 1.36v-1.37v within Windows. Temps however were quite high as my cooling isn't the best. So lowered the clock speed.

Remember every board and chip is different. Your power supply can play a role also smile.gif

But I can say, Jason387, that's an impressive overclock you have there! wink.gif

Thanks:)
Here's my 4.4Ghz stress test with IBT at maximum.

My VID is quite low. Maybe that helps for overclocking.

I can't even set the vcore that low in the bios. LLC is regular. How are my temps much cooler but my vcore is much higher. I'm using a tiny Fractal Core 1000 case and a loki 92 mm cpu cooler in push only.

iRUSH set your cpu to run at stock 3.5Ghz in bios, and leave vcore set at auto, turn turbo off. Boot into windows then back in to bios and your vcore *SHOULD* be set around 1.28 and you can work from there.

You need to disable turbo core first. With that on you can't set the voltage less than 1.42v. Make sure to keep APM and C 6 State as well as AMD cool and quiet off. Looks like are coolers would be around the same performance. Maybe I'll try re-seating the heatsink. How did you apply your thermal paste? Along the lines on the copper pipes of the base or you used the dot method? The temps that you mentioned were your core temps or cpu temps?
Can you download core temps and take a screenshot and upload it here please.

Let me get on the things you suggest. As far as my temp goes using hardware monitors "package temp" 40c. My cooler has visible copper pipes that touch the cpu. I run a small bead in the opposite direction on the pipes for best coverage. If the cpu cooler surface is 100% smooth like the cpu is then I use the dot method. My turbo core has always been disabled. I will also disable C&Q + C6 tonight.

Thanks again!

I did. No matter what the lowest vcore setting in the bios and reading I can get is 1.36.... It doesn't matter since I need 1.344 (vdroop) stable at 4.0. It just seems strange, that's all.
