I was able to hit 5GHz with an occasional core failure and slightly above 70c after an hour in prime95, so i dropped it down to 4.8GHz and it has been running fairly cool and very stable since.

I'd really like to get it to 5GHz if anyone has any suggestions.

edit: Just realized i had the cpu fan pulling air from the heatsink back into the case rather than pushing it out the back. My cpu and tmpin2 temperatures dropped about 5c when i flipped the fan around rolleyes.gif

edit 2: I noticed the board started making a whining noise while the voltage was set so high to accommodate the 4.8GHz OC, so i set it back to 4.5GHz and lowered the voltage significantly. The whine is now gone.

Here are the settings i used, and the case/cooler:

Reduce HT LINK speed to 2400Mhz. Don't keep it at 3100Mhz, that's what's causing instability.

Thanks, I'm trying that with 5GHz and slightly higher multiplier/voltage.
I'm getting illegal sumouts in prime95 now, any advice?

Is there any way to directly lower the tmpin2 temps?

I believe that's what is holding back a 5GHz overclock, the NB temps spike to 85c during the 2nd pass of prime95 tests and the screen goes black.

Hopefully a northbridge heatsink/cooler will fit on this board

It would. The heatsink that comes with the mobo is small. Taking it off, replacing the thermal and putting it back on tight may reduce temps as far as 15-20c.

thanks! i tried that and it did help with temps, though i was still getting a black screen after 10 minutes in prime95.

now that i've set the ram to just barely over stock speeds, the black screen hasn't yet shown up, and tmpin2 temps have decreased significantly.

at 5GHz (full load) the temperatures on the processor are staying around 55c, and tmpin2 at about 70c. redface.gif

That's good. So you removed the NB heatsink and redid the thermal?

So I'm a bit confused about the max temp, now I understand that the max core temp is 70c but is this temp the tmpin2 temp or the package temp in mar dwarf monitor?

I'm now gonna have a go at 4.4ghz smile.gif

I wanna try add a little bump to the clock 2, any ideas?
