FX-6300 + GA 78lmt-usb3 rev. 5.0 overclocking so far - Page 5

Update:

After some fiddling with the bios settings,i can get the CPU to hold steady at base stock speeds (3.5) all the time and never downclock. The turbo still fluctiates between 3.5-4.1 under low and high load still

So im just gonna get some Aftermarket cooling and OC it,the turbo feature is just too inconsistant.

Any1 reccomend a cheapish cooler that is easy to fit on this board(as its quite small and not a lot of room,Prefrably a latch/clip one similar to the stock cooler as oppsoed to em having to fit extra bckplates and such.

Im considering the CM hyper 212 as its a good price and offers very high peformace, but im not soo keen on the steps involved on fitting it to an AM3+ board.Would rather a simpler process for attaching it

Turn turbo off. It's quite useless.

Yea i already have, having it on jacks up the temps quite considerably and for minimal performance gain

Ok,i have got myself an aftermarket cooler and installed it today,as far as i can tell its working ok

Got a Cooler Master TX3 EVO

Underload (80-100%) i get the following temp readings from Argus monitoring

Around 50-55c on the socket temp and around 35-40 on the core temps. This is all at stock speeds with no OC,i have my bios set to disable all power saving,so my clock speeds are always at 3.5 Ghz

So my question, are these reasonable temperatures.Everywhere i read people have different opinions on which temp is important on this cpu.I know the max temp you want to have is 62c under constant use,but is this for the Socket or Core?

If its the core,im fine and am ready to begin an OC,if its the socket, well it seems i have very little room to OC?

ideas?

That cooler will manage upto 4.2Ghz max.

that would be fine for me tbh

But im still looking for a definitive answer about which temp i should be watching, socket or core temp? everywhere i look its conflicting about which one matters as AMD temp monitoring is more an art than a science

62c on the core and 70c on the socket.

So whats the best way to start OC'ing then on this Mobo

AMD overdrive or via the Bios? just looking to get to to a stable 4.0Ghz for now

Best is through the bios. Turn off all power saving features first including something called APM Master. When you use a stress test what's your vcore within windows at stock settings?

vcore is 1.320v in windows while idle and drops to 1.308v when underload

This is with turbo off and high performace power mode on,so the CPU never drops its clock speeds below 3.5ghz

So whats my best option from here then,im just looking to get a OC to 4/4.1atm ,would this be possible without increaceing the voltage?
