Picked up a FX4130 for $35. Unfortunately on TX3 cooler but wonder how far I can go with it. Maybe 4.5Ghz?

Picked up a 8120. Hoping for a solid 4Ghz which shouldn't be too difficult. Already played around but haven't done long term testing so back at stock. Also added fan on northbridge and new cpu cooler which pushes through VRM heatsink.

Interesting vrm heatsink. Can you tell me more about it?

Hey neighbor to the south (Toledo) it's a http://www.thermalright.com/html/products/mosfet_sink/hr-09%20type2.html ThermalRight Type 2. Mounted using Artic Alumina thermal adhesive so no brackets or anything needed. I think Enzotech makes solid copper ones that fit. Those might perform better.

Ha, I'm from Toledo smile.gif

I didn't know those were still available! It is a heat pipe heat sink and I used one on a UD3. Years ago they were really hard to find. It did help that board by 4-5C.

In fact here are some pics, and the Enzotech didn't perform as well.

Thanks for the clarification miklkit. I wonder if the Enzotech needs to be taller to be as effective as the Thermalright. As for availability I was lucky and found it on clearance for $7ish from Performance Pcs. I wanted to get the Thermalright Type 4 as it was the tallest and single stack. It seems as though Thermalrights NA presence is diminishing. I wonder if they are selling more in Asia region due to the rise there. Thanks for the result. I wish this board had VRM temp sensor so I could see the improvement.

At that time I was using an air cooler with the fan fixed in place so the air flow was going over the top of the stock heat sink and the Enzotech, but this one stuck up into the air flow so it had a chance to do better. You have your fan adjusted nice and low so that is a big help too.

Hey guys,

Hoping someone can reply here as I am new to overclocking, but have researched it pretty hard.

The situation is that I have a fx 6300 and a ga 78lmt-usb3 -- I actually have 3 sets of these. I also have bought 3 hyper 212 150mm cpu fans:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

I've tried over and over again to overclock them but have failed. I have turned off core boost and raise the cpu multiplier from default 17.5x to 18x just for 3600 mhz (which is very low).

The computer then boots and were all good.

However, when I shutdown the computer and then reboot it, I get the famous "THE SYSTEM HAS EXPERIENCED BOOT FAIL DUE TO OVER CLOCKING" and everything is set back to default. It just seems that it will not let me overclock a single bit!

I've raised the vcore all the way up to 1.42 and I still get this message. Even for 3600mhz.

Everything at default settings runs fine. I also run linux on these systems (long story), so I don't know if that affects things.

Any help would be super appreciated.
