Screen goes black on Steam/Spotify?

First things first, if I'm in the wrong area of the forum, please move this thread elsewhere. My apologizes. I just figured it belonged in this section since that's all it keeps doing right now, and I think this is where my issue is.

Any way, pretty simple here; when I load up Steam and sometimes Spotify (for this program, it only happened once) my screen will monitors will change to go completely black and from there, they won't go back to normal. In stead, I have to force my computer to shut down and re-boot it back up. It most notably happens on Steam when I go to click a certain game type, and when I'm in the section where the videos are at, it'll change. It used to do it when I would view videos in that section too. Now lately, it seems to happen more with videos (Vine videos, as well). And even when visiting this site for my college. Now, a couple days ago (I can't find the Google search in my history right now), I did something to make it stop in the power settings. I ended up changing my screen time to 600 minutes so it never did that, but clearly that didn't seem to of stopped the program.

So far it hasn't happened on games (thank goodness), but it does do it randomly. It's quite irritating as I've been having this problem since November/December and for the life of me, can't figure it out. I asked my friend and he said it could be my flash settings, but I checked all those and everything is up to date. I even downloaded the most recent update for NVDIA as well.

Problem happened again, so I thought I'd bump this thread. Could really use some help and input.

I'm having the same problem! Did you figure it out? Or can someone help us?

My first idea was that it would likely be your flash / gpu driver.

Have you done a clean install of both?
Completely remove both (run driversweeper afterwards for Nvidia driver), reboot, reinstall latest versions.

For the NVidia driver, make sure you're installing the latest WHQL driver, since the latest one had some issues with Korean 1440p monitors going black, I guess that won't be your problem though, since you've been having it since november/december.

Also, it might be an issue with your monitor itself, have you tried / can you try hooking up a different/spare one to see if the problem still occurs?

A last resort would be to backup all your data, do a clean install of your OS, and see if the issue still comes up.
If it still does, it's very likely a hardware defect, possibly the GPU, and I'd look into replacing/RMAing that one.
