problem while uninstalling nvidia driver

Thread Starter
I had the GeForce 316.49 Driver WHQL installed, .

I tried uninstalling the 326.49 drivers, and while doing that, my computer monitor went black and my computer wouldn't respond, and every minute I would get a weird beep from my computer motherboard I believe, not from my speakers.

it only occurs after running the pc for a long time and try to uninstall the driver on normal mode.........but can uninstall if i reboot the system once.....no trouble with uninstalling though if the pc is not running for over 14 hours.........weird problem! any suggestion?......anything else seems fine.....playing games, watching movies with no issues.....

SPECS:

MOBO: Intel DH77EC
CPU: CORE i5 3570 3.2 ghz
GPU: MSI GTX 660 2gb/OC
RAM: CORSSAIR VENGEANCE 2*4 gb
PSU: THERMALTEK TOUGH POWER XT 675W
CASING: INWIN DRAGON RAIDER
Monitor: 17" samsung(4 years old)

So the ultimate question is, were you able to successfully downgrade your drivers as you were intending?

If that is true, I'm assuming you are just trying to find out why it takes a reboot to do this. My best guess is it sounds like a software conflict, which tends to happen especially when playing around with (frequently) evolving graphics drivers. I will go out on a limb and assume that if you did a full shutdown and turned the system back on, you wouldn't have to wait a full 14+ hours for the uninstall to work.

You can try to take a more methodical (yet, much longer) approach to make sure you have the cleanest uninstall/reinstall of drivers:

The other thing may be to start fresh and reinstall Windows, but start with the specific driver revision you want to have, and then wait it out until a new game deems it necessary to upgrade again.

With all of that said, it's all a moot point if you were successful in your endeavor. wink.gif
