[PA] Microsoft Details How The Xbox One Will Handle High Temperatures - Page 9

As always, one must withhold judgement until it can be tested. As far as what we can clearly tell, the PS4 has need to dissipate more heat on account of the larger, more powerful gpu and possibly a higher cpu frequency. That said, the Xbox One has what looks like at least 30% more size, far more ventilation as the PS4 only has vents along the rear side, a heatsink that looks like it can't even fit inside the PS4 console and a chipset we can reasonably expect to produce less heat and need less aggressive cooling. Either way, should all these reactions to this news about Xbox One make sense to a sensible person? Going by what we already know the thermal situation can't be any worse than the competition.
The cpu cores being used in the consoles are targeting that market (or is it netbooks/tablets?), but I can't say if I've seen an ultra slim notebook with a 7970M (PS4 gpu) in it. If so, I'm sure it isn't comforting to touch with bare skin under 3D load.

What in the hell. the PS4 does not have a 7970M GPU in it. Try more along the lines of a 6870.

It's much closer to a HD7970m than a HD6870...It'd also beat one when you take optimization into account.

You got lucky. I took back 2 PS2's, and when the third one died, Wal-Mart had stopped their deal with sony and denied me returning it. I had to send it back to the manufacturer, at my own expense. Also you didn't state what hardware version you had.

both console use graphics chips based on the current GCN architecture. the Xbone/PS4 gpu are underclocked from pc counterparts so the raw performance is nearly identical to the 7770 and 7850, even though they have more shaders respectively.
