about battlefield 3, i know this game has tons of updates and my internet sucks

1)i want to download the game, i know steam let you backup your games, but origin???
2) so after i download bf3, the game starts to download updates? how much do you think in GB?
3)can i backup those updates too or do i have to download them every time i format my pc

If i'm not mistaken, Origin allows you to save the install files. You just have to go to settings. I'm at work now so can't give exact process... Hopefully someone can chime in.

good deal, but wow, origin as a service stll sucks.

Seems like a personal problem. Im downloading that same game and I have no issues.

I typically get ~1.8-2MB/s via steam, with origin I am getting 2.3MB/s constant.

As rjmana stated you can save the installers

1) Do you mean like backing up like downloading it from a work computer and putting it on a stick and taking it home so you don't have to dl. I'm sure that works just take the installer and put it in the directory that you designate for origin installers.

2) I haven't "played" BF3 in awhile, so it's not exactly up to date, but the total size of it's folder is 23.7 gb (hell i didn't realize it was that large)

3. I don't think so (to the question of needing to redownload updates), I keep my games on a separate hdd for when I format so I don't have to download them again. What you will have to download though is the battlelog plug in but it's usually not that big, I just downloaded it and it's 3.7mb

In addition to the others, don't you think that because there is a huge sale and it's the middle of the day, there might be quite a bit of people all trying to do the same thing? Also, with Steam and Origin simultaneously activating the games, each client was downloading at about 1.5mb/s each.

Thread Starter
I reformat all the time... and I simply so not delete the install for Origin and install all my games outside of my OS HDD. So simply, I install origin again on top of where I installed it before, then simply Origin recognizes all of my installed stuff when I point it to the folder that I used to install all my games before. Then it simply registers them as installed and they run fine.

I guess if you don't have multiple HDDs, you could just make a partition for it.

Edit: Speed is working perfectly for me too... Maybe the ones having issues are not in/near big cities?

I would think so as well, but when I use steam, I typically get 1-2 mb/sec and I started downloading at 2 am (mdt) so I thought I wasn't going to get into traffic issues. I do live in a major city, my PC is always hard wired in, and I have fairly decent internet speed. Also I don't think that should excuse why the downloads should freeze till I quit origin and boot it up again.

If I buy this for myself (not as a gift), and don't register the keys can I send the keys to a friend to use? As I have most of the games already it would seem a waste not to use the other keys. I would assume I could as it hasn't been tied to an account yet.
