X-Fi xtremeMusic Half Height? what the???

Thread Starter
I have just upgraded my computer, finally taking the step to pci-e and have got a not too shabby system. However my Audigy 2 is starting to die...Sound 'doubles up' or just doesn't play. Sometimes it works fine but other times it is like it has a mind of its own.
Anyway, I have decided to get an X-FI as I have been wanting one since there release although with the fact I just spent a fortune on my upgrade leaving me with negative dollars I stumbled across this :-

http://www.i-tech.com.au/products/47...remeMusic.aspx

It looks like a standard xtreme music card and all the stats are exactly the same yet it is $40aus cheaper.

I am going with the assumption that it is a reduced sized card more focused on shuttle pc cases or the like? or is it just a budget version of the x-fi?
If anyone has this card I would be interested to find out what it is like and whether I should get this card or the standard xtreme music.

No, but I can tell you what I have read. This is basically a budget card. I would go with the X-Fi ExtremeGamer Fatality, the music/audio and plain gamers are budget cards...basically just x-fi audigy, not worth the price. The fatality (which i own) is the same as the elite fatality, just not including the front i/o panel. If you want a new one get the fatality pro series without I/O.

The Elite Pro uses better DAC's over the Fatal1ty card. The XtremeMusic is a good card I have one in my LAN rig. I would get it if its cheaper my guess is it just comes with only the card no box or accessories thats what OEM usually means. The half height thing I dont think means anything I dont think you could make the card smaller if you wanted to.

If you can squeeze it the Fatal1ty Pro (non front panel) is pretty inexpensive I paid the price of a Platinum for it and got XRam outta the deal.

yes, but I would suggest reading the forum post I linked It actually compares the chipset and other things, read users comments not just the first post And yes, fatality > elite pro cause its the same just no panel.

They are the same PCB but they do NOT use the same DAC's. I am not making this stuff up.

Elite Pro: Cirrus Logic 4398
The rest: Cirrus Logic 4382

The X-Fi Elite Pro uses the Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC also found in the Audigy 4, E-MU 1212M, and E-MU 1820M. The CS4398 DAC is superior to the CS4382 found in the other X-Fi cards.

Lucky I found this thread, I was just about to ask exactly the same question and am buying from exactly the same store.
So is the final conclusion that the Half Height OEM with Half Height Bracket edition is a different PCB to the normal Xtreme music edition or the same?

I was also under the assumption that all the X-fi Boards were the same apart from the External I/O components and of course in the higher models X-Ram. Those were the only things that seperated it?
Because if you examine the www.creative.com website it will show in the specifications page that there are no differences throughout the whole range except for this... Or are there?

No, yours isn't the budget card. There is the "XtremeGamer", which is the budget card, and also the XtremeAudio, which isn't as good as yours. You have the card that is meant for gaming but without the front panel bay add-on.
