Video editing can eat up 64 gigs of ram easy on a large project. I'm actually doing this build in pieces though. Starting with 16 (all 8 GB sticks) and then buying more as the money comes. That was I have upgradeability without having to toss stuff I paid good money for into the bin.

and Lshuman, I'll look into that one

Thanks! Hopefully it turns out nice! But like I said, it will be a very slow build. Between working low hours, taking full classes, a few concerts, a weekend trip for my brother's bachelor party, and Christmas, I will have NO money. Haha! So I guess we'll see how long it takes.

If you're doing it in stages, then I recommend using a cheap graphics card if you currently have one to hold you off until:

A) you find some killer online deals (forums For Sales, vendor sales, etc.).
or
B) September for more news on whether AMD's next gen is soon to launch or still a ways out.

At this point, you can get some great deals on used graphics cards with great performance. You can also be sure that AMD's maybe-soon launch will put pressure on Nvidia's pricing (something we all benefit from). The 780's a great card by all accounts, but it is expensive brand new. Keep an eye out for the guys who can't keep their graphics cards for longer than a couple months and you can take advantage of some awesome deals.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do. I'm buying a buddy's 660ti on the cheap so I can at least get some use out of my computer, since 2011 socket's don't do graphics.
