Introducing the Arms Deal Update, which lets you experience all the illicit thrills of black market weapons trafficking without any of the hanging around in darkened warehouses getting knifed to death. The Arms Deal Update lets you collect, buy, sell and trade over 100 all-new decorated weapons that you can equip in-game.
You can start collecting decorated weapons via timed weapon drops just by playing CS:GO on official and community servers. You can also get them by opening dropped weapon cases with the appropriate key, or by trading with other players through Steam's Trading interface. Additionally, any decorated weapons you've found, bought or traded can be sold on the Steam Marketplace.

We also want The Arms Deal Update to give back to the community, which is why we're happy to announce the eSports Weapon Case. A portion of the proceeds from sales of eSports Case Keys will go towards prize purses at CS:GO community competitive events.

Last but not least, as part of the Arms Deal Update, we've added two new stock weapons available to everyone, the M4A1-S and USP-S.

Great, CS gets it's version of TF2's hats. Valve knows where the money is to be sure.

valve has my favorite business model of any game company. free to play or cheap. emphasis on gameplay first, emphasis on balance but still with customizable elements that don't damage balance. i wish blizz would adopt their model more, instead of giving us their lame closed off crap that loses entertainment value very quickly. valve is like the blizz of the 90s.

This is what pretty much everyone in the professional scene WANTED. In fact, we wanted this and the game to go F2P.

NiP's point of view on cs:go/new update here
Why the hell does money have to be in it? People mod out of love for the game, not because they want to make money. TF2 Hats ruined TF2. Hopefully this won't do the same to GO.

Again the money is to fund CS:GO Tournaments, which CSGO is lacking compared to CS 1.6. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.

Not sure about CSGO but you could use skins in guns for ages in CSS.

Still missing the CS 1.3 or earlier versions

How is it a "trash" way to grow the community? Gun skins are optional, they add nothing statistically to the gun. How else would you fund CS:GO?

More LAN's = bigger community.

God they have nothing better to do then add random drops or collectible stuff like hats in TF2 then make you pay for them.

If CS does not change it will die off. Most hard core cs gamers are too old to play games now.

Um.....with the millions of dollars they make? Valve has more than enough money to push a competitive scene. This is another way for them to not have to spend their own money. If any other dev does this people complain. Personally I don't care either way. I enjoy the game regardless, but just saying.
