It's not a fault with the HDD, it's a known trait with WD Blacks. They are loud when seeking and reading, and when you mount it on a metal cage cheap case, it's just nightmare. Which is why I've bungee suspended it to MINIMIZE it. Still has a noise but bearable. It is also my OS drive, so it barely rests.
My WD Green has the firmware problem, where it does that self check thing after 10 minutes of idling creating a quiet, yet audible and constant buzz when idling. Not good considering its lifespan. Sigh.
But thanks a lot. You have restored faith in me to the windowed panel. Everyone, including CorsairGeorge, is saying "Windows are the enemy of silence computer cases" and whatnot.
It's definitely a heavy case. Even more so when you stuff it with chunky graphics cards and coolers. Unless you specifically need a small case, I would just get the R4.
Hmm, I've never heard of that before, but I guess I haven't really looked into them. Haha, that's a great solution for the noise, though I believe it's not good to mount (or hang) a mechanical drive vertically.
Are you planning on making a nice looking build? If that's your aim then definitely get the window. But if your components are all different colours and will look bad then I'd just stick with the regular panel. Another idea is you could buy the case with the window, and if you don't like it or it's too loud then swap it with the panel on the other side of the case. Very little sound would be coming out from there so it wouldn't really make a difference.
Whatever you decide on, I am sure you will be as happy with Fractal as I am.
Anyway, time to upload more photographs.
