Phenom II X4 955 BE gaming

Thread Starter
Hello guys.. I currently have an Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz and I'm planning to buy a Phenom II X4 955 BE tomorrow.

I know it's old, but I don't have a lot of money, and here in my country the prices are very high.

I also have a Sapphire HD 7770 OC edition, and I think the Athlon bottlenecks it because when playing a game the GPU usage is only 50%. So, will the 955 BE be a good upgrade and will it fix my bottleneck issue?

Don't recomend FX cpu's because I would need to buy Motherboard and RAM, and I don't have money.

thanks

Make sure your motherboard can handle that Phenom II before popping it in. If it's compatible and everything's good, then you you will see a significant increase in frame rate.

Agreed. Not all motherboards will handle a X4 955 so check your motherboard's CPU support list to make sure its ok. And assuming it is and youve got a fairly beefy motherboard, a Phenom II X4 is still a very capable gaming chip. I wouldnt want one for a GTX770 SLI setup but for a 7950 or something like that, it would be fine while saving you a good bit. Make sure you put a solid overclock on that thing and remember to overclock the CPU/NB as well as Phenom II's see a pretty good bump in performance when this is increased. 2600 MHz should be about right. That along with a 3.7+ GHz core clock and youll have a very potent gaming chip.
