As far as playing with / without people that use the RMAH, I don't see how it is a big deal really. I have played with several groups of people since release, and mostly they were IGG traders only. Only a few of them ever used the RMAH, and honestly, the difference wasn't that much in terms of how well they did vs the others. sure, it makes switching classes easier, and quicker to get out of that rut when you first started Inferno, but I never thought to myself 'that guy who used the RMAH really just ruined the game for me'. I mean, I could see it being a small issue if we had PvP, some of the people who are able to throw away tons of cash to get gear will have an advantage, but I am pretty sure even if the AH didn't exist at all, they would have found some way to toss money to someone for gear.

This exactly.

It's not the AH's themselves that are the issue. The core issue is the fact that you can play hundreds of hours (like I did) and never find a legendary/set item because drop rates were so horrible to account for AH bloating.

This, to me, is not fun. And I'm hoping they can address this properly with the expansion.

While JSP would be used to some degree, there is still a huge stigma to it and many would stay away from it. Also, a lot of the content on many item sale houses in D2 were duplicated or stolen.

See, part of the discussion at Blizzard about the Auction House in D3 was "How many people would actually use it?". Blizzard felt, and this was said in an interview by Jay Wilson, that only a small portion of the playerbase would actually use it. Part of this data was from polling, part from the JSP activity, and a few other sources. What they didn't factor in was the stigma against 3rd party vendors, like JSP. So, with the idea that only a small portion of the community would use it, they launched it.

They were completely wrong. A massive number of people started using it, because it was provided by Blizzard.

The other thing about JSP, is we now have the technology, and the systems that can handle it, to track items. It wouldn't be difficult at all for an item to drop and it have a character/account ID attached to it the moment it is generated. Then have a system track those items; system sees one character or account moving HUNDREDS of items a week, it can flag Blizzard and they can investigate.

JSP characters and their behavior stand out in the game!

I don't get where you are thinking JSP isn't insanely popular. Like I said, it's in the top 5 forums on the entire internet. I also don't think Blizzard would even be able to get data on how many people actually used the item shops, apart from the old ebay numbers.

The stigma against third party sites is not very widespread. It's almost a no-brainer to go third party for any big sales, since that 10-15% fee would take tons of the gold... not to mention being able to buy services like killing the ubers.

This wont be adressed though it would fix the game, I would go back to playing it if Drop rates were decent, I dont like the idea of investing over 100 hours in Diablo play and walking away with no useful item whatsoever, thats not Diablo, its not the game itself. All blizzard has done has made it 100% easier for gold sellers/botters to create an industry in the game.

Question for D3 players. Does the new expansion with a new Act and improvements make you want to replay the game? I've never played the game before, but it seems very polarizing amongst players. Also, would you recommend it to a newbie?

I don't see how people ever have this issue. I hear complaints about it but it seems highly exaggerated to me. One run through Act 3 on mp3 or 4 I get around 2-4 legendaries. At lower levels they were pretty rare, but running Inferno it feels like they're almost guaranteed.

You seriously put in hundreds of hours on a character and never saw a legendary?

Edit: Though really, good rolls on yellows/crafts beat out legendaries fairly often.

You know, with all the hoo-haw about this, I decided to try and reinstall D3 to enjoy. Key word: TRY. Been downloading for a day straight just about and only at 26%. During release, I can understand servers being bogged down, but this has nothing to do with that. Crappy options from Bliz is the issue here. I've tried all their troubleshooting and no help. On a 10mb connection, getting 50kb/s down from their downloader? .... Give us a direct download option please, or a sponsored torrent to properly utilize the P2P community. Sure, the downloader has P2P... but you are recommended to disable it to get anything to work. Funny thing, mine only works (at 50-100kb/s) with it ON.... Frustration building. Especially now, watching it dip to 35-40kb/s while writing this. So, in 4 more days, I may be able to try and play D3 again.

/rant

(Does anyone have a ftp server I can just get the files from? Or a reliable torrent or direct download? Note, torrent does not equal pirated... i paid for the game and just want to play frown.gif )
