Nvidia HD Audio drivers, do I need to install Realtek audio drivers?

Thread Starter
I just recently got a GTX 780, I noticed during install of the drivers it said HD Audio, so do I even need to bother installing the Realtek Audio drivers for my motherboard?

I am on Windows 7 btw, and I can't test it on my own because my replacement speakers from Newegg haven't even shipped yet due to the slow RMA process. >.>

The Realtek HD Audio drivers will be for the analogue and optical outputs on your motherboard. So if this is how you are connecting your speakers/headphones, then you'll need the Realtek drivers. The nVidia HD Audio is for audio support on the HDMI port on your GTX780. smile.gif

I second what francis said. The nvidia drivers are only for your card (so audio can work on the HDMI cable).

But if you want to plug in your headphones or speakers, you need to do that on the motherboard. So you need to install the Realtek drivers.

Hope that helps! smile.gif

I never install the Nvidia HD Audio drivers for my card. I use the HDMI on the back of the card all the time and it works fine.

Do you mean you're getting audio over HDMI too? Is Windows automatically installing a driver for it? For some reason I've always thought the NVidia HD Audio was required for the audio pass-through over HDMI. thinking.gif

Yes, I'm getting audio. I use the HDMI output on my card to watch videos on my TV. Works great without having the Nvidia driver installed. Never saw anything being installed when I plugged it in.
