Cannot Get Sound from Onboard Audio

So I've been tearing my hair out over this problem all afternoon, I cannot see any sign of hope. Just today I installed another GTX 570 and spent about 2 hours trying to get it into SLI. Anyway, I reinstalled all the Nvidia drivers multiple times when I was trying to get it to work., turns out the other 570 was just in the wrong slot. So I got it working in SLI, then noticed that I had a strange hissing noise coming from my headphones.

When I plug my headphones into either the front panel or the back panel I get this hissing sound and I cannot get any actual sound from it at all. I have optical sound plugged in as well, and cannot get any sound from it either. I've tried reinstalling the audio driver many times, no luck whatsoever. I've made sure the front panel connector is in properly, and that I didn't bump it when I plugged in my second graphics card.

Has anyone got any suggestions? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd first make 110% sure I'm using the correct headphone jack and that all the mix things are unmuted. Then, I'd try to get sound from a Linux live CD. If you can't get sound from a Linux Live CD (after checking all the jacks), then your onboard audio is probably shot- probably damaged while you were rummaging around with the video cards.

I've personally have had the onboard audio fail on two motherboards- one from plugging the wrong thing into the front audio header and another someone gave me and it was shot when I got it. It doesn't affect anything else.

Thanks for your help! I've concluded that the onboard sound is completely shot so I'm buying a PCI-E sound card because my only PCI slot is covered by one of my graphics card.
