Gigabyte 570 stopped working - but only in Windows 8 ??

any ideas please

cut long story short

my Gigabyte 570 SOC has been working just fine - no issues at all - until ..

(1) updated drivers to Nvidia 326.X - installation failed ref the display driver , rebooted, and GPU not working at all

(2) fans on GPU at 100%, not even detected in PCI-E slot, didn't work on 2nd pc I own either

(3) left overnight - and it suddenly started to re-work

(4) tried to boot into windows 8 and would not boot into Windows 8 - would hang and put monitor into immediate standby

(5) booted onto IGPU (3770k CPU) - could run the Gigabyte 570 fine via Lucid Virtu - games etc no issue at all- all good

(6) tried uninstalling all Nvidia drivers etc - thorough job, rebooted onto Gigabyte 570 - and black screen, crash, monitor into standby (this is on windows boot - bios worked fine)

(7) thought - perhaps the DVI ports aren't working properly and hanging the sysstem or something weird (only difference I could think direct from the GPU vs via LucidVirtu)

(8) installed on spare SSD - Windows 7 - alll good - installed fine, installed reasonably latest Nvidia drivers, ran Valley etc - all fine, ran at monitor native resolution of 1900 as well - so all good

(9) assumed therefore Windows 8 installation was borked

(10) finally had time this evneing to reinstall Windows 8 .. this is a fresh install onto a freshly formatted SSD - and same problem, black screen monitor immediately into standby, no matter what I try - when Windows 8 gets past blue logo - I either get a crash and monitor on with black screen or monitor immediately into standby

The weird this is - I'm typing this in Windows 7 - using the Gigabyte 570 - which is still working in games etc

why has it stopped working in Windows 8 ? I'm completely confused to see how this is possible. I fresh installed Windows 8 the first time months and months ago without issue so whats changed

how can a gpu work fine with a fresh installation of Windows 8 - yet now won't - yet works fine on a fresh installation, and with drivers installed installation of Windows 7 ?

note I tried setting PCI-E slot manually to 1.1 and 2.0 to no avail

any help appreciated

What drivers did you install on Windows 8 after the clean install?

320.X or did you install the 326.X beta drivers again?

Richi - I think the 31XX drivers - I avoided the 320s completely

but I found a fix last night - you know where you get to the I'll try anything point ...

and prob didn't need a reinstall !!

I tried twice doing a fresh install of Windows 8 to no avail

tried one last time - but this time reset bios to default optimised settings - and .... all good ! - how strange - wish I'd thought of it sooner too

note - I've not changed any of my bios settings/stable overclock in over 3 months minimum - and the settings as set in the bios were working fine in windows 8 during that time

they also this week worked in Windows 7 fine too - yet for last week no go in Windows 8 - even with a fresh install

reset bios to defaults - and now both Windows 7 and Windows 8 boot

how very very strange

motherboard is a Asus Gene V

btw - if both Windows 7 and Windows 8 had not been working I'd perhaps thought of a reset to bios defaults (or CMOS reset) beforehand

but as one was working the other not - I'd assumed it wasn't a bios level issue

Hey mate - glad you found a fix to your problem then.

Yes, strange that the BIOS settings let your graphics card work on one OS but not on the other.. Hmm.. Microsoft screwing things up again, as usual! tongue.gif

No, but seriously, I have no idea what could be the problem.. What kind of motherboard do you have?
