E6600 OC question

Thread Starter
I current have my 6600 clocked to 3.0ghz using the software ASUS gave me along with the board. I'm having the vcore at 1.4v. The CPU is running at 33C on idle. However, being a novice at OC'ing, I dunno how to set my cpu:ram ratio at 1:1...

Also, how far can my 6600 go with my board and 2 sticks of DDR2 675, assuming cooling is not a problem?

Last question: ever since I switched my mobo and installed the 6600, my speakers have been acting whacky... I'm using a logitech z5500 5.1 system. After the mobo switch, only the front left, middle and subwoofer work, the other speakers are non-responsive. I know this is an OC forum, but if anyone know of a solution to this problem, I'd greatly appreciate the help

Thanks guys, have a great christmas.

im not an overclocker....yet . but im pretty sure you can fix both your problems in the bios, i beleive you must enable the 5.1 support because 2.1 is stock settings. as for the ram ratio i think its found there as well, hope this helps buddy

I've already set everything to 5.1, but it still doesn't work... any other suggestions?

Anyway, back to the OC topic... how much does the DDR2 675 limit the E6600in terms of OC'ing?

OC'd to 3.0ghz, that means your CPU's fsb is 334mhz, well your RAM should be set to (and read) DDR2 668. That simple.

It could go as high as 400x9. Now, I have the same DDR2 675 as you but in a different system and they can go as high as 442mhz, which means a 442x9 but that would also depend on how good is your cooling solution.

BTW, I never like on-board sound controllers no matter what, so I'd say get a el cheapo sound blaster sound card, way better.

The speakers and the OC are two different issues completely. For now lets focus on the OC.

Your going to disable the Ai overclocker. I'm shocked you even got it to work. Most of us can't get it working. Doesn't really matter though because the bios is easy too.

Under advance tab.
JumperFree Configuration

AI overclocking, set it to manual.
CPU frequency: 266 for stock
Dram Frequency: Auto or 533 for 1:1(Thats what you were asking for)
PCI express, set that to 100
PCI clock 33.33mhz
memory voltage recommended. Whatever that may be for your ram.

Advance Chipset
Configure Dram timing by SPD: Disable that and set your ram timings below.
Disable hyper path 3

I'll add a complete list of the bios if you need it.

To answer your last question. If the ram refuses to overlock at all(it should overclock some) but if it doesn't. Your max fsb would be 337 with the ram at 674 for 1:1. That would put you at 3.28ghz at 9x.

Edit: My math there was off. It would actually be a little above 3ghz. If you want to hit 3.2 it would be 356 *9 with your ram at 712 for 1:1.

I used the OC software that came iwth the Asus board to OC the cpu to 3.2. i'm running wow right now and temperature is sitting at 39C.

I don't use onboard, i use a creative soundblaster x-fi.

But yea you're right about the software, it's really slow. but i somehow got mine to work, so i can set everything in the os, bus speed, vcore and everything. but i'll try what you suggested. thanks ;D

Make sure you use core temp beta or tat to get your temps and not probe II that came with the mobo. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that your temps right now are at 55+ under load. That's just a guess though.

Go here and download Orthos

http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...v20060420.html

This will push both cores to 100% which is a better stress test than wow. It will also let you know if your system is stable.

If temps get above 55c your going to need to lower your overclock or vcore.

There really isn't an average core temp. If the C2D is overclock you are putting extra stress on the processor and decreasing it's life time. An overclocked C2D above 60c isn't going to last long due to the amount of heat.
