im back! we have success =P to an extent lol. Still not as good as ive seen, but much happier when I was hitting TJunction before Delid. I removed the socket clip. tossed the IHS to the side, and wrenched the block down on the naked core and crossed my fingers. My wife usually lets me grope one of her breasts for luck too (it works I swear!) and whallah! Another 10c or so off the top!
Im running Small FTT and currently my hottest core is 66 my coolest is 58 (58,67,65,58) Those are much more in line imo! Still im running a pretty low clockspeed/voltage (1.275/4.5) as well.
Any reason for the discrepancy in temps between the cores? core 2/3 are consistently 8c hotter than 1 and 4. Does anyone know the location of these on the die? Is this normal or does it point to an uneven waterblock mount? I saw a video on youtube where the guy had a 2c difference between all 4 cores at most usually just 1.
Either way, I think its "fairly" safe to run naked a few things considered. I put some TIM on the die and pressed the block down and there was literaly no contact w/ the clip on so taking that off is a MUST, however after the fact.. the die's nowadays are so low profile compared to the die's of yesteryear, you would really really have to messup bad to chip/crack a corner me thinks.
Now I AM a very OCD person and having a naked chip under my waterblock makes me feel like my pc is incomplete or "rigged" in a way which I hate.. but I can live with due to the circumstance lol. I expect a nice drop when I do get a supremacy so if anyone knows anyone with one to get rid of.. ive got some 1336 chips and boards and some 775 chips and boards, and even a few video cards and some ddr1 and ddr2 I can shuffle about =P (remember I said im impatient lol)
Anyhow, thanks for listening and chiming in etc. Ill keep you guys updated when I do get one or if I change anything else as well as what happens when I crank up the voltage more and go for 4.7 (id really like 4.8 but im a reasonable individual =P) As much trouble as I see people having reach it lol.. I don't wanna work this thing TOO hard.
WTB a way to NOT have a 9 degree diff between 2 cores. Whats that in farenheit like 30 degrees ffs?
I realy need to find out what some of these voltages in the bios do - things ive never heard of on this z87 board and from what I gather and assume - auto setting on everything BUT my chips vcore may be running some stuff higher than it should be which wouldn't help temps and maybe some things lower than they should be which is killing me stability wise.
One thing ive noticed is I can get into windows really easy at low voltages and high clockspeeds. 4.8 @ 1.3 np and usually I have no problem running small FTT for awhile but blend always seems to lock up on me. Its not RAM as its not overclocked at all and timings and voltages are exactly @ spec (for now hehe) I assume its some other on die voltage but since they moved the voltage reg and renamed all kinda shat in this new uber bios.. blegch.
If anyone has a new gigabyte board that wants to share some bios settings im all ears =)
one more time @ the end of this writing 4.5ghz at 1.275v now with prime still running small FTT its 58-67-64-59 (god if I could get those 2 middle ones down like the end ones!)
