Have Used Desktop And Laptop For Gaming Before? - Page 2

I have both, and I use them for different purposes.

At home I have my 3930K, GTX Titan, and a 30" 2560x1600P monitor. I work from a home office, and do coding and design work all day - so the big monitor is a huge productivity booster. Gaming at 1600p is pretty awesome too, hence the Titan.

When I'm at the beach house, I take a ASUS G750 laptop with 24GB RAM, 770M graphics, Dual Samsung 840 Pro SSD in RAID 0, and a 17.4" Full HD screen. It's plenty fast, but the relatively "small" screen is hard to get adjusted to. The keyboard is nice, but not as nice as a dedicated mechanical keyboard at home. It gets the job done though.

There's no way I could use a single platform (laptop/desktop) for both purposes. The laptop wouldn't have the performance to drive the 30" monitor to the levels I require, and the desktop isn't portable enough to take to the beach or client's offices.

GO both.

Interesting so far. Gaming at high resolutions seems to be the key to big monitors using desktops. Those who have desktops with big monitors like Hammong they see laptops screens as too.... I used laptop, used desktop and came for laptop again. I have not missed my desktop. But when I used to have my desktop with 24'' Monitor my dad's laptop seemed like a tablet and a keyboard in my face biggrin.gif Now I am enjoying my laptop that looks like macbook! In other words, having both desktop and a laptop can be awesome if they are for different purposes?

I had a similar problem when I switched from a lenovo y500 to my sig PC. Didn't think that going from 15.6" -> 27" with the resolution still at 1080p would have that much of a difference visually but oh boy, it sure does!

If your wallet does allow. I'd get a 1440p screen from ebay. Those are reasonably priced and I should be getting my hand on one of those bad boys soonish. biggrin.gif

1 think I have noticed in this thread is that every really enjoys using big screens for their PC, It does not sound old fashion though tongue.gif It even make your room looks stunning?
OK. How will you feel if upcoming laptops are with 24'' inch and over displays?

I use to play games on laptop, but found that for any extended periods of play, I was plugging it into a TV/Monitor and hooking up a keyboard and mouse. I don't usually play games while I'm go (school or work) so I really don't see much value in gaming laptops anymore. I would prefer to spend my money on a nice desktop at home and then a slim power efficient notebook for when I'm on the go.

I think if you must game on a laptop your compromising a lot and spending extra $dough$ in the process. Gaming laptops are usually too heavy, too cramped, throw too much heat, and can't be easily ungraded. I'm also absolutely in love high res IPS/PLS monitors and mechanical keyboards which laptops don't normally offer.

I think my 17" laptop is already a little too big. I always find myself using my 15.6" one if i am going to use one of the two. the 17 is just a little too heavy for use on my lap, and the touch pad sucks.

Well if I'm at home, I play on my desktop.... with a 27" screen.

If I am away from home, I use my MSI based laptop... with a 17" screen. I do prefer gameplay on my desktop system, however the laptop is more convenient to use when on the go. One thing I do use to make both of them play somewhat evenly is that I use a Logitech G13 gamepad instead of a regular keyboard... this way both machines play similarly as far as the controls feel.

I enjoy playing games on Laptops but don't fancy those alienware etc. Their designs are not attracted to me, they look bulky and those who have been using them complains about how heavy and hot it gets under loads. I think this is why most people prefer desktops for gaming instead of laptops. I play games on my laptop most of the time, It isn't an extreme laptop for gaming it really stays cool under loads or pressure, it's silence as well.

In the UK gaming with a desktop in the summer without a fan or air-conditioning in your room will really piss you off (Heat, noise!) Laptops has always been my favourite, especially in the UK where you have small rooms biggrin.gif

Let me hear from you what you think at where you are living, using desktop or laptop?
