Buying a new phone soon need some help choosing

And by some help, I mean a lot of help.
I've been lurking on this forum for a while now and I've finally decided it was time for me to make my first post. I am going to be upgrading my basic phone to a smartphone soon and I would like help choosing which phone to get since I have never owned a smartphone before.

My budget is anything under $50-$75 (with a two year contract)
My carrier is AT&T
I would prefer android because I already have a Nexus 7 tablet, but I am open to all suggestions.
I don't want a huge screen. (Around 4.3 inches if possible)

I look forward to any and all advice/suggestions I can get. thumb.gif

There aren't any Android phones for under $75, unfortunately. The closest option is $99, which is the Galaxy S3.

I'm probably going to buy from Amazon/Bestbuy to get a better deal because I assume the AT&T stores are going to charge more for the convenience of buying it from them.

At Amazon the Galaxy S3 is $9.99 with contract; it looks like a very good phone, but I'm a little hesitant about a phone that is so big and light.

4.8" isn't hideously big. I'm using a phone with a 4.3" and I wouldn't mind a little bigger screen tongue.gif

Amazon has the HTC One on AT&T for $120, a little more than you wanted to spend but a great phone. Otherwise get the Galaxy S3.

I can't think of anything that'd be as good for as cheap (on contract that is). If you could spend the $300/$350 for a Nexus 4 maybe, you'd get a better phone and wouldn't have to worry about a contract so you could save that way, but it means more of an upfront cost and I assume you can't put that much down at the moment.
