Touchpad scroll bar no longer working after clean install of Windows 8?

I recently helped my friend out by rescuing his bloatware and virus ridden gateway laptop by doing a clean install of windows 8 with an extra copy i had lying around (the laptop previously had windows 7 installed). After it was installed however the scroll pad on his mouse no longer works. I've tried re installing and uninstalling and re installing the synaptics drivers over and over to no avail. I've searched through the mouse settings and it seems it doesn't even register it as a touch-pad only a ps/2 port mouse which must be the default naming scheme because the laptop doesnt even have a ps/2 port. The laptop in question is a gateway nv52l06u. Any help with this matter would be appreciated.

This won't help with your individual case but I've noticed you must be very careful messing with laptops and their drivers. I was uninstalling a bunch of bloatware on my girlfriends new Asus, the next day she complains certain things aren't working. It turned out the drivers had bloatware-sounding names, or were actually packaged in with bloatware.

Anyway, Gateway website lists both Synaptics and Elantech drivers, have you tried both? Make sure its the recent one too, they're not in any type of order.

Sorry, this is a little overdue, but I had not installed the Elantech drivers. They seemed to fix it. Thank you sir thumb.gif
