Upgrading from Q9550, I need suggestions for a CPU/mobo

Since 2007, I've been using a P5B Deluxe with q9550. I think the motherboard died. I might as well go all out and upgrade to Haswell. But I haven't been following up with the current mobo/cpu trends, and I need help!

I am falling towards the 4770k for maximum overclockability, with a Z87 motherboard. I'm falling towards the ASUS z87 sabretooth as well. I'll probably get around 12gb of ram or something.

Could I please get some insight? Is the 4770k and z87 Sabretooth a good combo? I would like something relatively high end!

Should I get the Sabretooth or the Maximus VI Hero?

p.s. I hear the Haswell series has crap overclocking abilities, is this true? Is it better to get Sandy/Ivy Bridge and get a higher overclock than a Haswell?

Thanks for helping a newbie!

Oh, I'm from Canada, and I'll most likely order from NCIX.

Just go with Haswell. There is no point getting SB or IB if you don't already have a 1155 socket motherboard.

There are cheaper motherboards that work just as well as the ones you listed. Personally I don't know the Z87 mobos well so someone else can chime in.

I have heard that overclocking Haswell is harder temp wise as Intel has integrated some more components into the chip itself which generates more heat. Even still, Haswell is faster clock for clock that IB or SB, so you might as well get it. Based on something I read, a 5GHz 2600k = 4.7/4.8 GHz 3770k = 4.5GHz 4770k.

One last thing is you should get ram in a set of 4/8/16 GB instead of something like 12.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I've decided on this:

Intel 4770k
Maximus VI Hero
Corsair AX860 PSU
G.Skill 2x8GB kits
samsung 840 Pro 256GB

GPU will be my current one, gtx480.

Looks good?

The 480 is old, but it still has some power. It's a decent card still.
