Broadcom Crystal HD Video Decoder Mint 15

Thread Starter
Ok, I've just come off an 12hr overnight shift and and I've worked 11 of the last 12 days with 6 to go before I'll have 2 days off. then I'll get to work 12 more days and if that isn't bad enough I'm 2 weeks from graduating with my Masters so I'm cramming for finals to top that I'm a couple beers and 3 shots into sleep time redface.gif

Is that enough excuses biggrin.gif

Here is the situation got a couple little Dell Lappy's from work they were on no one property book so now they're mine they're really nothing special just some 2008 Latitude E6500 C2D 2.66/3GB. When I got them the HDD cover was gone and there was no WiFi, my 8yo daughter doesn't do wired thumb.gif so I got a pair of Intel 5150 WiFi NIC's and the HDD covers about 20 Euro all said and done. While I was in there installing the stuff I noticed I had a free mini PCI-E slot and I had this sexy little Broadcom HD video decoder I used in my Power Mac's to hang with Blu-Ray decodes. It has a Linux driver also (actually 1st) so I pop onto google and download the tarball.

I'm either drunk or not too smart (most probably a bit of both), but I cannot find the driver folder. I've installed all the dependencies but after that....

Please see the attached ReadMe

I remember that HD chip. I used to use it to view videos on my netbook until I fried the mpcie slot.

In the driver source zip file you probably already downloaded from the broadcom site, there should be a crystalhd_07032010.tbz2 file. Open it with 7zip and extract it. Inside that archive browse to crystalhd_07032010.tbz2\crystalhd_07032010\07032010\driver\linux\

You'll need to follow the readme and compile the driver. I haven't tested it but if you still can't get it to work, I'll see if I can dust off my crystal hd card
