I bet intel are really kicking themselves over that. Apple gave intel the opportunity to create chips for the iphone and they turned it down, they would have made a killing. Now 6 years later intel has 0% smartphone market share whereas they could be much higher. Intel is doing fine and still making tons of money, but still. I know they regret that decision.
I remember blackberry was "the thing" back then and the iphone came out of nowhere and was a huge hit; when I first saw one I was immediately sold. It was quite an amazing and different phone at the time, when you consider everyone else had garbage flip phones and blackberrys. The iPhone was in a different league at the time, although competitors have since caught up.
