If I don't overclock, is the stock cooler fine for me?

Thread Starter
I'm getting a Core i5-4430 in the mail in the next couple of days and rebuilding my system. I'm wondering: If I don't overclock, is it worth it for me to get a third party cooler? Is the stock cooler actually somewhat decent enough for stock speeds?

Do you care about noise? The stock cooler will keep a non-OC'd chip cool enough, but it might be a little noisy compared to aftermarket solutions.

It'll be worth it to get a Hyper 212 if you want really cool temps without a lot of noise.

Stock cooler will be fine. Your GTX 560 Ti makes about the same amount of noise. Thousands of stock systems with stock coolers are in use in schools, offices, libraries, etc. and I haven't noticed anybody needing ear protection while using them.

I have seen 4770k throthling on stock cooler (reaching 100oC) at stock settings. But I think you should be fine. But as said above.Even low end aftermarket cooler will give you less noise and lower temps.

+1 for the Hyper 212. It's a great little cooler. I picked it up for around 35 bucks off of eBay, and used it for a week or two to get my computer up and running without stressing out the chip on a stock cooler.

Ended up on a Corsair H110 AIO water cooler, for now. tongue.gif

Thanks. I'll use the stock cooler (probably will replace the thermal paste with something better) and see if the temperatures are adequate. If so, I'll keep it, otherwise, I'll look at other options.

Also, I'm planning to upgrade my GTX 560 Ti to a GTX 760 4GB, but that will have to wait until next month when I have more funds available.

I'd really suggest the Coolermaster 212 EVO! It's a great little cooler for a relatively cheap price. Are you planning on running a resolution above 1080P?
The stock cooler will work just fine, but as others have suggested, the hyper 212 evo would be a solid upgrade.

I just went from a Stock Intel cooler to the Coolermaster v8 and the improvement is massive but I ran the stock intel cooler for a year on 24/7 pretty much. It's definitely louder but it does work fine. smile.gif
