GTX 570 borderlands 2 settings

Thread Starter
I reinstalled BL2 today and put everything on Max, except for Physx which is on low. But when I had it before I reinstalled it, it wasn't as choppy as it was now. What are the most taxing settings on this game? Also, I'm not doing any .ini tweaks. Thanks.

Turning off Ambient Occlusion will give you a huge boost in performance.

Is your GPU usage maxed out? Probably the best thing to determine first is if you're presently GPU or CPU-limited. With a reasonably high-end video card you can actually end up CPU-limited in BL2 pretty easily.

For my system about the only setting that matters is PhysX ... with everything else maxed (except Depth of Field, which I just don't like) but PhysX on low, my machine laughs at the game at all times, esp. my GPU, which never even gets close to pegged at 99%.

But with physX on High, I get lots of dips into the high-30's/low 40's ... still the GPU seems to be laughing ... I'm reasonably sure that even with an nV gpu, a LOT of the physX effects still run on the CPU. And they are intense enough to cause a CPU-BN to appear even with my 930 at 3.9GHz, and drag down my FPS.

Out of curiosity, what drivers are you using? I had some bad performance regressions in Metro Last Light with Physx turned on on my GTX 670; in a really taxing scene in the benchmark it went from the mid 30s to 5-6 fps. My point is I'm pretty sure the latest drivers have a big Physx problem because after I went back to the 320.14 drivers it was great again.
