You guys should suggest to SteelSeries to offer their large pad in red like they do their smaller one.

I doubt SteelSeries does bad things to their mice to make you want to buy another/different one later. That would do the opposite of what they want. You want to build a following for your products. When someone asks, "what is the best mouse to buy", it should be their product that is mentioned first.

I think a LOD of 2.5mm is the maximum, anything above that is bothersome. With the standard lens lift off on black cloth should be tuned for 2-2.5mm, that way when you use red (maybe white/gray) it doesn't go below 1.25mm.

As you tilt the mouse the angle increases/decreases with the LOD before it stops tracking. So with a 2.5mm LOD it's ~5mm for one side to be tilted before it stops tracking. With the Zowie mice the tilt angle can be very low on certain mouse pads, which causes issues when you swipe the mouse. I think the absolute lowest LOD on red cloth would be 1.25-1.5mm. I prefer to use a LOD of ~2mm, this is why I use a blue mouse pad with some mice.

3 CDs is about 3.6-3.9mm. Which is close to what Takasta is saying. That is about what the 3.5G does. I cannot use such a high LOD with my very low sensitivity. It ruins my accuracy and reaction time.

It's funny! I was thinking the Kana v2 would rival the DeathAdder 3.5G in performance -- forgot about the LOD necessary for that. biggrin.gif
I confirm that zowie AM on my QCK heavy (black) mousepad is barrely unsuable, I think LOD is under 1mm. I just need to tilt for less than 1mm on one side to stop tracking (I stop tracking when feet are not in contact with the pad).
so I dont want to buy another pad to make the zowie AM works. I think this LOD problem should be fixed by zowie, not by customers. Anyway, I dont like AM's switches (too hard), so I just simply dont use it anymore.

but it may be good for Kana v2 if my mousepad lower the LOD smile.gif

Quake players lift their mice allot. Actually I haven't seen a good Quake player who doesn't lift their mouse constantly. Lifting the mouse is part of the aiming style I would say more than repositioning.

I don't know about CS but I have seen a few videos and it seems they also lift up. There is a reason both Spawn and Heaton mentioned lowering LOD as a big part of their input when working with Zowie, but Zowie lowered the LOD too much with their custom lens.

I like the LOD on the FK, my only worry is that it will be hard to get used to higher LOD if I ever switch to some other mouse.

sorry, but without testing this mouse with "tape fix", this review is incomplete and the question if this mouse is good or crap still open. teaching.gif

Likewise this question cannot be answered 100% anyway, to many subjective factors judging LOD, design of mold etc .

I myself actually don't mind higher LOD mice, although I don't mind low LOD either. Kinda non-picky about that, I probably just got used to lifting my mouse far enough off the pad at some point ...

SS should really copy Roccat and transfer the A3090 into one of their higher end mice as well. Sensei's mold feels kind of perfect to me, still I cannot tell, whether A9500 will bother me or not ...

Well, this will probably never happen, these mice are not build with picky users in mind after all.

The problem is not that this mouse has high lift off distance. The problem is that it has ******* HUGE lift off distance.

There is no perfect product, though. If one cannot live with it, he should not buy it. Simple as that. I still suppose SS will sell quite a bit of those and enough customers will be satisfied with it, as they are with Kinzu v2 and Sensei. Sadly, this forum represents a niche market.

However, it is noted that the DPI settings listed may be slightly off from the actual DPI settings. When using enotus, it seemed to me that the 4000 dpi register felt like a 3600, and the 1600 registry felt like 1400 in testing. Possibly they did this in order to subjectively obtain 8 different DPI settings through interpolating up or down. Users will have to adjust accordingly to what they're usually used to and game a bit before allowing the subjective difference to set in.

Funny how hard it is for SS to make right DPI settings. In my Kana (first version with Pixart sensor) the 800 DPI step is somewhere between 730-740DPI.
