New to home audio, give me a hand please :D

SO me and the fiance just ordered our new plasma tv and we are going to be using it for 70% gaming and 30% movies/netflix/ect. Im trying to piece together a nice little system to give off some good sound. I don't need it to get loud, I just need it to sound good at a reasonable volume. I been looking around for a few days and found this:

Receiver:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B981F38/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=01FDXGSMF4368TTZWB7Y&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1389517282&pf_rd_i=507846

With these 2 standings:
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-SP-FS52-LR-Designed-standing-Loudspeaker/dp/B008NCD2S4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1376888853&sr=1-2&keywords=Andrew+jones

So what else will I need? I'm new to this so I'm not 100% sure. Do I need a sub or a center channel? I would like to make it a 5.1 system here shortly after.

Also here is my new TV:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ARAHBIW/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

So what do you audio enthusiasts think?

Well, in a 5.1 speaker setup you always need

2 Front speakers (Left & Right)
2 Rear speakers (Left & Right)
Center speaker
Subwoofer

Therefore you would need 4 of those standing speakers (for both front and rear), including 1 center speaker and 1 subwoofer.

Hope that sets you in the right direction wink.gif

Would I use the same standing speakers as the back channels as well? For some reason I always imagines the two front speakers as the big ones and the back 2 as small ones.

Yes, precisely. Any surround sound set has the same speakers in the rear, as in the front. The only speakers that look/are different are the center speaker and the subwoofer.

So basically you would need 4 of those tall standing speakers you posted a link of.

WEll as long as you have the room for it.. Some people Opt for the smaller speakers for room constraints.. But it is also advised to get the speakers the same make and timbre matched except for the sub that can be any make and model..

Really ONLY the Front L/C/R need to be timbre matched

Ahh ok, I don' mind getting 4 of them it makes sense that way....its just all the other setups I've seen had hose smaller speakers on little stands in the back so I just assumed that's what you were suppose to do.

I like most think speakers are subjective in which is better, What really matters is someones OWN Opinion on what sounds good.. but these Pioneers are highly rated for best bang for the buck and doubt you could get better quality for the same price..

I would to the OP get out there and do some listening for yourself to get an idea of what you like dislike and try and choose speakers bases on what you think of them.. I have a set of speakers the most on the HT forums just cringe at but I like them it is all subjective..
I agree with Nephilim - get out and listen to speakers! I will say that the Pioneer are widely regarded as great bang for the buck speakers but be sure to check out various brands to see what sounds good to you! For the speakers themselves, the Left / Center / Right speakers should all be from the same brand and from the same line of speakers so that they're timbre matched. the sides / rears can be of most any kind of speaker. If you have the space, using identical speakers across the front is 100% ideal (harder to manage with tower speakers admittedly). As for budget, check out the Pioneer Andrew Jones (you already are), Polk can be found on sale online either in the polk ebay store or on Newegg, or if you live by a Frys electronics the Infinity speakers are quite good (to me, I own a pair of P163s for my desktop and I love them.)

For the subwoofer, it does NOT have to be from any particular brand. You'll want to research it seperately from the speakers as they are a whole new ball game. For budget ones most people look to the Polk, Dayton, BIC, and Outlaw brands for subwoofer. If you're handy you can build one as well (parts-express.com has amps / woofers and I think they sell the boxes as well).
