Low PPD & GPU Folding Same PRCG

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
So i'm rejoining the OCN folding team after buying a new GPU (in sig) and since then im getting much less PPD than i used to when i folded using a GTX550TI. I've also noticed that the CPU job changes normally but the GPU keeps folding between the one pictured 11293 and 11292 for no reason i understand.

Being kind of a newbie folder any help would be appreciated biggrin.gif

Comparing AMD PPD to Nvidia PPD is often apples-to-oranges, or at least it was in the past, as each hardware type used different cores to complete their work. There's a new core in late-stage beta that you'll really want to run on that card. To do so, open Advanced Control by selecting the FAH systray icon and clicking on it in the menu that should pop up. Then select Configure, go to the Slots tab, Edit the GPU slot, then add an Extra slot option with Name 'client-type' and Value 'advanced', both without quotes. Then select OK/Save on all of the windows that opened. You should start getting the better WUs starting with the next one. Also, if you didn't get one already, you should obtain and enter a passkey so you can earn more points.

As to the PRCG number, as long as you don't see a completely identical set of all four numbers, there isn't a problem. The first number is the Project number. There will be on the order of hundreds of thousands of Work Units that will comprise each project, demarcated by the Run/Clone/Gen numbers that follow (the ones in the parentheses). The old AMD GPU core you're currently running only ever had a handful of projects created for it, and I believe right now 11292 and 11293 are the only ones still running. There are a lot more projects for CPUs, which is why you may not have seen multiple WUs from the same project yet.

As Zagen said, you need to be running Core 17 WUs to have PPD that's along the lines of Nvidia. You need to add the client-type beta flag to your GPU slot.

Read this thread to get the gist of Core 17

You only need advanced, as all of the current core 17 projects were moved from beta to advanced a few weeks ago, though of course beta will also get those projects.

Thanks for the advice guys, i did the client-type advanced straight after the first post and it jumped to 20k PPD which it hadn't done before and im just waiting for the WU to finish to see if it'll raise it by much then smile.gif

Yeah, buy a Titan. biggrin.gif

In all seriousness, there's not much more I can think of. You could add the slot option next-unit-percentage:100 to both slots. By default the client downloads the next WU when the current one hits 99% completion, but the new one isn't started until the last 1% of the current WU is finished. Since the QRB is calculated from when a WU is first downloaded, you're technically losing some points by downloading it early. It's not going to gain you that much in terms of PPD, though, maybe 1000 PPD combined between the two slots.
