Here is my two cents. I just finished upgrading from Win7 to Win8 Pro. I've installed Classic Shell simply to ward off my wife asking for help wink.gif. I installed on an SSD and the performance is great! I've had no issues running games or finding drivers for anything I own. I really enjoy the new features along with Metro start menu. I'm very much a power user and have not had any issues finding things like people say or even have any slowness in daily tasks using the new interface. All the complaints on the OS seem like they are coming from people who have used it for 5 minutes and uninstalled it.

I say if you want to get a fresh OS with new useful features go for it. If you are simply wanting an OS that just works and looks the same as the others did 10 years ago and do not want to learn new things, I say stick with Win7. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

I've played with the 8.1 preview and really feel that my current version is lacking in a few areas compared to it but they are not huge issues.

If you have a touchscreen, go ahead and get Windows 8.1. Otherwise, no real reason to switch from Windows 7.
