Sounds like some

You don't necessarily need to install anything to be hacked. Seems they just wanted to screw with you so you should be good. Check your processes for anything odd.

I think that's exactly what happened, had a friend call me awhile back freaking out with the same issue, I drove to her house and found she logged on to a guest account and not the admin account which is hers as she's the only one that uses the system.

Hmmmmm I don't think so.... I still had the correct user name on the start menu, used my usual password to log in and it's the only user for the computer

I would still format and reinstall... could be a HDD issue....?

It sounds like an NTFS filesystem malfunction to me.  The malfunction can be caused by (or can cause) filesystem corruption.  I would run chkdsk on C:\ to fix any possible issues there.  You will need to reboot to run chkdsk.  After chkdsk is done, check your disk's SMART status.  If that is OK and your system passes a malware scanner, I wouldn't worry about it unless it happens again.

Are you using Windows 8 by any chance?  I ran into several bizarre NTFS filesystem bugs in that OS, including file crosslinking, and files suddenly containing zeros instead of meaningful data (Recuva could read the data out of those "zeroed" files just fine).

Anyway, you should have a backup (a USB flash stick is adequate for some people) of your personal files, because computers and HDDs aren't infallible!

Google unhide.exe and run it, actually your computer is infected and the virus made all your files superhidden (same level as protected system files hidden).
