Hey, I asked a couple questions here (and on CG) and thought I'd upload the build I ended up doing for my brother.

It's basically to get him through university this year and next in his Masters of Architecture, but he uses a lot of 3D modeling software as the workshops he studies are fairly intensive on 3D modeling for large scale design work where some form of 'decoration' is compulsory.

Before he was using my PC to get the rendering done which cut the time down by a factor of 10+ from his alternate (laptop); but moving to London will present a new group of challenges and the time difference alone means access to my comp will be a b1**h in any respect.

Took me about 2hrs to build, + ~ 2hrs for OS + Drivers. I have to dismantle it in a few days yet to put a grill over a fan near the PSU as the cables were too close for comfort, so will take another photo then of the true end product with cable management biggrin.gif

Here's an extract from my blog on the build: http://monkeygonewild.wordpress.com/2013/08/20/custom-design-and-render-pc-build/
More photos on the blog, I didnt' want to import them all as they're quite large.

Hello! Two days ago I got around to building a PC for my brother to use at Westminster University this semester for his Masters of Architecture.

Custom built design & render PC

Normally he uses my computer, but since he’ll be in London, theres a slight inconvenience

Specs
CPU: Intel I7 4770
Motherboard: Asus IV Gene Maximus
Graphics: Nvidia GTX780 Gainward Phantom GLH Edition
RAM: 2 x 8GB Corsair Dominator
Primary HDD: OCZ Vertex 3 240GB
Secondary: 2TB 7200rpm Seagate
Extras: ~ 6TB in other storage (we’ll be using them as hot-swap so they won’t be installed directly to the chassis)
Case: Fractal Design Define Mini
Fans: Sickleflow 120mm x 4 / Coolermaster 140mm x 2
PSU: Silverstone 750w Gold Rated Modular

Please excuse the poor photography, I really wasn’t sure where I should take photos along the build so I just took what I felt showed progress; unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of the cable management once everything had been put together in the end, but I can assure those cable-freaks out there that its pristine inside, zip-tied all around, cable to cable to chassis where possible and all the excess PSU cables were removed.

There is room for another 16GB RAM and a ton of HDD’s.

We didn’t opt for a Quadro card because the 780 is better than the cheaper Quadro’s anyway, and the upper end cards are too expensive for a build like this. The airflow on this case is pretty good and its runs fairly quiet with the case walls in place.

Have to say, I’m running two GTX 580′s in my water-cooled loop and the GTX780 is ridiculous in the FPS category for 3Dmark, but for test like Fur mark, I can stay stable at 49 degrees quite literally until my water runs out – this card on a basic FurMark test went up a degree every 1-2 seconds (Celsius degree, not Fahrenheit). I stopped it at 70 degrees, the Nvidia cards can usually hit 90-95 before you need to worry but I wasn’t really interested in stress testing yet, just making sure everything in the build was stable and running well.

If people are curious for benchmarks, hit me up and I’ll happily run the tests you’d like to see.
