1366x768 already fine with 7750 and dual core?

Hi guys sorry for yet another thread like this but my specs are a tad bit lower than the usual "is X good for 1366 or overkill?" thread so I can barely see any info that might help plus I barely got any stock knowledge or experience for this gen of cards/games, my current specs are

Windows 7 64bit
Intel Pentium Dual E5700 3.0ghz
4GB RAM
9800GT 1GB
Coolermaster Extreme Powerplus 460w
Samsung 18.5inch 1366x768

and I plan to either get a 7770 or 7750 however I just realized the 7770 might be overkill for my res already and besides my Dualcore might bottleneck it also, and I'd prefer on saving rather than getting the fastest I can, especially since I also think I need a better processor

So do you think this setup plus a 7750 to replace the 9800 enough for somewhat current games(excluding the real machine hogs that aren't really that good like Crysis 3) like say Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3 or Skyrim will be good enough?

I don't really need to max these, atleast get 40 fps medium/high no AA, low shadows on any of those because this 9800 can't even do that

7770 would play all these games but dont expect max settings at 720p at 60fps,but if you want 60fps at med/high then the 7770 is perfect. I would recommend the 7850, its £20 more but well worth it

I use the same resolution. Had a Radeon 6770. Needed an upgrade badly, got the Gtx 650ti. My dual core bottlenecked it. Then got the FX 6300 and everything together made a huge difference. At resolutions like ours which are low. The cpu matters a lot, i mean a lot!

I know that's why I'm asking because what I can gather from the web is vague on that area, what was your cpu?

Games became hard to play at high settings. Medium settings were okay. When I got my gtx 650ti my Athlon II was bottle-necking my gpu. In crysis 2 at max settings with high resolution textures and dx11 my fps was at 42. Once I got the fx6300 and overclocked it my fps went upto 77. At low resolutions the cpu counts a lot, especially in newer games. As of now I can max out Cryis 3 with fxaa at 50+ fps :)

As of now, your system is already well balanced with the E5700 and 9800GT.
Upgrading one of them will result in bottlenecking the other.

If you upgrade the gpu, the cpu will bottleneck. If you ugprade the cpu, the gpu will be too slow.
Sort of an impasse there.

Try looking for some used Core2quads like Q8400. If you can get one, you can partner that with an HD7770
